In fact, research has shown that practicing consistent cardiovascular exercises can help to reduce body weight, decrease blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and a number of other positive health benefits. By taking just a few minutes out of your day with the goal to increase your overall level of health and wellbeing, you can easily improve your tolerance to exercise, allowing you to train harder as your cardiovascular conditioning progresses. That’s why, during this post, we will highlight a few easy exercises you can do while at the gym or at home to quickly improve your cardiovascular health.

The Argument for Fitness
According to Circulation, a journal of the American Heart Association, “Healthy adults who are the least fit have a mortality risk that is 4.5 times that of the most fit. Surprisingly, an individual’s fitness level is a more important predictor of death than established risk factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.” This is just one of countless statistics that advocate for an increased level of fitness among all individuals. Luckily, there are several different cardiovascular exercises that can accommodate all styles of life as well as physical limitations.
An often underrated cardiovascular exercise, jumping rope can help to increase hand-eye coordination, balance, spatial awareness, and many other beneficial tools used daily. If you are looking for a sure-fire method to quickly burn calories, jumping rope is the cardiovascular exercise for you. In fact, simply jumping rope at a moderate pace can burn anywhere from 10 to 15 calories each minute! Not only is jumping rope an exceptional workout for developing your cardiovascular conditioning, you can take a jump rope just about anywhere, making this the perfect workout for those on the go.
If you are considering adding jump roping into your daily cardio activity, consider purchasing a jump rope online, as the best jump ropes are usually affordably priced. Finding a jump rope that operates on ball bearings will help to increase your jumping speed as your skill progresses, and will also help to keep your jump rope from becoming tangled. These are just a few of the reasons why those looking to improve their cardiovascular endurance should begin the journey of becoming a seasoned jump roper.
HIIT, or high intensity interval training, is a great cardiovascular tool for burning fat and speeding up your metabolism while running on a treadmill. High intensity interval training involves short bursts of sprinting paired with multiple resting periods. You can begin a HIIT routine by warming up your muscles at a moderate rate on the treadmill. After your warmup period, you will increase the speed of the treadmill to a full sprint. Continue sprinting for 30 to 45 seconds, and then reduce the treadmill’s speed to a brisk walking or jogging pace. After you have rested for one minute, increase the speed of the treadmill to your sprinting pace.
You can repeat this process multiple times for up to 20 minutes, and will find that you were able to receive the same workout that you would have if you jogged for up to an hour. This exercise is great for long-distance runners who would instead like to focus on developing their explosive, fast twitch muscle fibers.
If your cardiovascular exercises are limited due to joint pain or other bodily limitations, consider adding cycling into your cardio regimen. Since cycling is a low-impact exercise, it takes most, if not all of the stress off of weak joints that would normally experience aches and pains while running on a treadmill. Cycling is a unique exercise, as it can be done almost anywhere if you own a bike. Not only is cycling good for your health, it is also good for the environment.
In fact, a study during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta found that by implementing car traveling restrictions, “ozone concentration in Atlanta decreased 27.9%” and “The number of asthma-related emergency department, urgent care visits, and hospitalizations among HMO enrollees decreased 44.1% during the same time period.” Knowing this information, it becomes more apparent that choosing to bike instead of drive can improve your health while positively impacting the environment around you.
